MATERIALS

Balancing quality, comfort and sustainability is key when it comes to choosing our materials. As moving towards a more sustainable collection is quite a process, our goals are long-term based with the ambition to use increasingly more materials with less impact on the environment, without doing concessions on the quality, comfort and look of our products. Our goal for 2025 is that 50% of our products are made with a minimum of 25% certified recycled- or responsibly sourced materials.

With quality, comfort and sustainability in mind, we continuously aim to use more and more recycled materials to help reduce the pollution caused by waste. In our products, we only make use of recycled materials with a certification to ensure the recycled content. Each recycled material has its own resource and reduced impact on the evironment, which is decribed below.

RECYCLED POLYESTER

Recycled polyester diverts waste from landfills as it is made from post-consumer PET-bottles.

The production of recycled polyester uses 59% less energy and reduces CO2 emissions by 32% compared to virgin polyester.

RECYCLED POLYAMIDE

Recycled polyamide diverts waste from landfills as it is made from pre-consumer fabric waste or post-consumer materials such as industrial fishing nets. The production of recycled polyamide reduces CO2 emissions by 26% compared to virgin polyamide.

RECYCLED COTTON

Recycled cotton diverts waste from landfills as it is made from pre-consumer fabric waste or post-consumer materials such as worn clothes. The production of 1 kg recycled cotton saves 2120 litres of water compared to virgin cotton.

POLYLANA®

Polylana® is a staple fiber composed of a proprietary mix of modified polyester and recycled polyester. This mix allows Polylana® fiber to be dyed at a low temperature. In BARTS products we use a yarn consisting of 60% Polylana®, which makes the percentage of recycled content in the total product around 35%. We blend it with 40% acrylic for a unique look and feel. Dyed Polylana® saves 29% CO2 emissions and uses 47% less water compared to acrylic.
