NEW BUILDING
In recent years Barts has shown a steady growth and has outgrown the current headquarters at the Danzigerkade in Amsterdam. Therefore Barts started building a new head office close by at Archangelkade in Amsterdam. On July 8th Barts held a foundation ceremony to celebrate this brand new start. The new head office will be operational in February 2012.
Both buildings are based at the Amsterdam Houthavens (timber ports). This area is changing rapidly. From being docks which were mainly used for inland ship transportation it now transforms into a fashionable living and office area, which will be extended with seven artificial islands.
The new headquarters will be 9000 m2 and will have a unique appearance and interior design. Where possible energy efficient and energy saving solutions are applied. For example: The car park will be equipped with electronic charging stations, heat and cold air will be stored and where possible we will replace wood for composites.
In addition Barts will build an ultra-efficient logistics centre which has the ability to deliver Barts products throughout Europe. Currently more than 5.000 stores are being supplied with the legendary winter accessories from Amsterdam.
Part of the company's heritage is that Barts is a Dutch company. In collaboration with the Amsterdam harbour the initiative was launched to ship as many as possible containers over the water, just like in the old days when shipping by boat was very common.
Efficiency is key and plays a very important role in the construction and development of Barts as a company. "We established ourselves in the heart of Amsterdam, because this city generates employees that suit the company and live relatively close to it. The employees can therefore come to work by bicycle.
